Saint Joseph's College will present "An Evening of Prose" on Tuesday, March 31, at 6:30 p.m., in Xavier Hall Lounge on campus. Andrew McNabb of Portland will read from his newly published collection of stories, The Body of This. Also reading their own stories will be students Kelly Emerson, Sadie Fenton, Jeremy Gervais, Jessica Pettit and Emily Young.
McNabb combines the literary with the spiritual, and his work has appeared in many of the premier literary journals and anthologies in the country. The Body of This is a gathering of tough, close and spiritual stories illuminating the complex architecture of people and their places. The characters in these touching, unusual stories struggle with the rigidity of their physical forms, while often times seeking, knowingly or not, the freedom of bodily escape.
Bret Lott, author of Jewel, had this to say: "The Body of This is a tough little bundle of shards that can as easily cut and make you bleed as it can reflect the one true light. These are strange and haunting stories that seek to understand this mortal flesh and its ponderous, fallen relationship with our immortal Creator. Andrew McNabb is a brave storyteller."
A native of Massachusetts and a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and New York University, McNabb is currently at work on a memoir and treatise to his children entitled, Daddy's Hope: Visions of a Real Alternadad. More about his work can be viewed at www.andrew-mcnabb.com and the publisher's website for the book, www.thebodyofthis.com.
The event is sponsored by the Saint Joseph's College Cultural Affairs Committee and Campus Ministry.
