Anthony Richards, an Iraq veteran, always liked art and design. When he returned from his tour of duty in the Army, he became a communications major. In one of his courses service learning was required. “I found myself wanting to go to Riding to the Top Therapeutic Riding Center (to make videos), not just having to. As much as I initially didn’t want to be involved … I ended up excelling,” he says. Besides making an endearing video about two of the horses, he also illustrated and designed a poster about Hepatitis C for another local nonprofit agency as part of his senior capstone project, which he describes as “my first experience with a work group similar to what you might experience at a professional level.” In addition, he created a logo for Catherine’s Cupboard Food Pantry.
“I was impressed by the experience and caliber of the professors,” he adds. “I built really good relationships with them.”
