The EdGE (a program of the Maine Sea Coast Mission),
located in Downeast Maine, seeks teaching staff members to lead
activity-based educational programs for students in grades 4 - 12.
EdGE staff will work with students both in and outside of the classroom,
with the goals of both improving student academic performance and building
student character. Activities will include tutoring, hands-on learning
projects, leadership training, and recreation. In addition to teaching,
staff will have responsibilities for facilitating, planning, and delivering
in-school, after-school, and evening activities for students and their
families. Training and orientation will be provided.
The participating schools are located in Washington and Hancock Counties,
situated near Bar Harbor, on the rugged and beautiful Downeast Maine
coastline.
Training for the school-year program will begin on September 2, 2008.
The full-year salary for this position will be $23,000, with an excellent
benefits package including medical insurance, computer and Internet
access. This experience, with its focus on both teaching and leadership,
will be excellent preparation for a career in education or any other
field.
Qualifications: We are looking for caring and compassionate people
with lots of energy, strong leadership qualities, initiative, the ability
to work independently, and a desire to make a positive impact on children’s
lives. A love of children, creativity, and the ability to help maintain
a positive and safe environment for students and fellow workers are
essential. Applicants should be excellent communicators and comfortable
with group leadership responsibilities.
Teaching experience and/or previous work with young people are preferred,
but not required. Applicants should be prepared for the challenges of
working with an at-risk student population in a rural environment. Bachelor’s
or equivalent degree required.

The
Chewonki Foundation, located on the Coast in Wiscasset, Maine
is seeking candidates for an Environmental Education Teacher/ Trip
Leader (Spring - Fall. Three-Season Position)
The Chewonki Foundation is a year-round nonprofit educational institution
located on a 400-acre peninsula in Wiscasset, Maine.
Our environmental educator is a three-season position in Chewonki’s
Outdoor Classroom from March 31 to October 31, 2008 with some opportunities
for continuing through the winter. It involves teaching natural history
and leading group challenges in our residential camping program for
school groups during the spring and fall as well as taking a leadership
role in our summer camp program. Those with trip leading experience
may assist in leading Chewonki's canoeing, kayaking, hiking, sailing
or sea-kayaking trips for the summer.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualifications include a BS or BA. Degrees in education,
natural sciences, outdoor recreation, or related field preferred. Teaching
experience required. Experience teaching environmental topics and leading
low ropes courses a plus. We are looking for educators with strong leadership
ability, a dynamic personality and a passion for living and working
with children outdoors. We also require Wilderness First Responder (WFR)
certification and lifeguarding. We host a WFR at Chewonki in January
and lifeguard training in March.
SALARY: Salary is $500 biweekly ($600 bi-weekly for the summer), plus
room and board, full health insurance, one week paid vacation and six
paid weeks of environmental education and wilderness trip training.
We also provide staff discounts on purchasing out-door gear.

The main tasks of an ALT differ from school to school, but generally speaking,
the ALT is there to give assistance to the Japanese teacher in the daily

The bulk of our positions begin in September and March where you can work
one, six month contract and then begin another or take a new job. Additionally,

What Heart School and most schools in Japan will provide:
