Mercy Week celebrates Catherine McAuley, our Mercy identity and heritage, and the many expressions of Mercy as a Saint Joseph’s College community.
Sunday, September 22 – Friday, September 27
“We should be as shining lamps, giving light to all around us.”
– Catherine McAuley, Foundress of the Sisters of Mercy
The entire Saint Joseph’s College community will celebrate Mercy Week from Sunday, September 22 to Friday, September 27. Each day this week, there are opportunities to celebrate our heritage and demonstrate our Core Values through community gatherings, opportunities for reflection, programs, events, and giveaways!
At the heart of Mercy Week is the celebration of Mercy Day on Tuesday, September 24. It was on this date in 1827 that Catherine McAuley, Foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, and her early companions established the first House of Mercy on Baggot Street in Dublin, Ireland. 191 years later, we have the opportunity to celebrate Catherine McAuley, our Mercy identity and heritage, and the many expressions of Mercy as a Saint Joseph’s College community. The Week will also mark the anniversary of the birth of Catherine McAuley on September 29, 1778. Learn more about the Sisters of Mercy by visiting: https://www.sistersofmercy.
