I worked for Dr. Mark Green as an undergrad, assisting in his research. That led to becoming a full time lab technician/ research assistant for the Natural and Marine Sciences Department at Saint Joseph’s, primarily for Dr. Green. I generally set up and run short-term and long-term experiments about the effects of ocean acidification on different types of clams in the mudflats of Maine. During the summer months I am outside working, which is one of the reasons why I enjoy what I do.

Saint Joseph’s College turned out to be the perfect place for me. With relatively small class sizes, I developed a personal and professional relationship with a lot of my professors, especially in the Natural Sciences − which in turn made me work harder. I believe that this college gave me an experience that no other college could. My science classes allowed a lot of hands-on, out-of-the-classroom experiences that I will never forget. With the campus right on Sebago Lake and the ocean only 20 miles away, Saint Joseph’s College gave me the experience I needed to get a job I am proud of.

"While Basket Island Oyster company has been around for about 10 years, originally as a hobby farm started by St. Joseph’s College professor of natural sciences Mark Green, it has surged as a commercial enterprise in the last four years. Hubacz was one of Green’s students at St. Joseph’s and after graduating in 2009 stayed on as a lab technician, assisting Green with an aquaculture class, among others."
