The 2015 Academic Convocation—a celebration that heralds a new year at Saint Joseph’s College, welcomes new students, and offers an opportunity to reflect on our shared values and commitments—will be held on Tuesday, September 15, at 11:15 a.m. in the Harold Alfond Center at Saint Joseph’s College. A community lunch will be available to students, faculty, and staff following the event.

Speakers at this year’s Convocation include President Jim Dlugos, Student Government Association’s President James Riley ’16, and Lucas Bernacki, PhD, who will deliver the address.

Bernacki, assistant professor of biology, was awarded the 2015 Excellence in Teaching Award at the College’s annual Academic Awards ceremony held in April. This student-nominated award recognizes a faculty member who has made an impact on student learning and exemplifies the qualities of respectfulness, enthusiasm, preparation, creativity, and fairness.

Bernacki earned his PhD in biology–molecular ecology at the University of Vermont, and his BS in biology at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. He began teaching at Saint Joseph’s College in the fall of 2013. His courses at Saint Joseph’s include Introduction to Biology, Special Topics: Evolution, and Ecology.
