CPA Workshops

  • Save the Date for one or all of the 2016 CPA workshops!

    All of the workshops, except for the September workshop, will be held on our campus in Standish, Maine. The September workshop will be held in Bangor, Maine. Each workshop will provide interesting and relative discussion topics.

    The workshops are designed for accounting professionals who need continuing education credits to meet licensing requirements. By attending a workshop you can:

    • Earn 8 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) hours, including one hour of ethics
    • Stay up to date on current tax laws, accounting issues, and ethics matters.
    • Learn more about how our Master of Accountancy degree program can benefit you or members of your organization

    August 18
    Topics will include:

    • Pay Equity and the Equal Pay Act; Presented by Tawny Alvarez and Joanna Bowers - Verrill Dana LLP
      This session, hosted by Attorneys Tawny Alvarez and Joanna Bowers from Verrill Dana will both explain the standards that are reviewed in determining whether a violation of the Equal Pay Act has occurred, will discuss recent proposed changes to the EEO-1 forms, and will provide guidance as to steps and practices that can be taken to adequately audit practices.

    • Soft Skills; Presented by David Ciullo - Career Management Associates
      David Ciullo is the President of Career Management Associates. David has over 25 years of experience as an executive for some of the largest corporations in the US, including American Eagle Outfitters, Pacific Sunwear, and Levi Strauss. His extensive business management, sales, and human resource experience has built a solid foundation for his ability to chart the right course for CMA’s clients.

    • Fire Arms in Estate Planning; Presented by I. Richard Ploss, Esq. - Porzio, Bromberg & Newman, P.C.
      Richard is Counsel to Porzio, Bromberg & Newman P.C. and a member of the firm's Trusts and Estates Department. He concentrates his practice primarily on estate planning for high net worth individuals and their businesses, estate administration, probate litigation and fiduciary income taxation. 

    • Social Security; Presented by Richard Carrillo, CFP - Wealth Management Services
      Richard joined R. M. Davis, Inc. in 1994 as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; previously, he was an attorney for Drummond, Woodsum & MacMahon from 1975-1994. He is a Certified Financial Planner®, and a member of the Maine State and American Bar Associations.

    • Professional Ethics and Behavioral Economics; Presented by Justin Coffin - UBS Financial Services
      Justin is a Financial Advisor with Rockland Financial Group, part of UBS Financial Services. Justin's work focuses on providing comprehensive planning advice to business owners and individuals in pursuit of their financial goals and business transitions.

      Our CPA workshops take place on our college campus in the Viola George Auditorium, unless otherwise noted. Saint Joseph's College is located on Sebago Lake in Standish, 18 miles north of Portland. The workshop cost will include continental breakfast, lunch, breaks, parking, and workshop materials. 

      Cost: $149
      Check-in and Continental Breakfast: 7am - 8am
      Workshop Program: 8am - 4pm
