      • Risk : Common Measures of Risk versus True Risk - John Cogswell

        A discussion of the most common measures used by investors. The focus will be on the benefits and potential dangers are relying on these measures. In addition, we will review a proprietary metric from Baystate Wealth Management that we believe measures the “true risk” in an investment portfolio.

        John Cogswell is the Chief Market Strategist for BWM, a member of the Investment Committee, and a Senior Portfolio Manager. John began his career in the financial service industry in 1995. Prior to Joining BWM, John was a Senior Vice President at Korben Insight Management, an E*Trade Wealth Management company. Earlier in his career, John was an investment manager at A.G. Edwards, and a registered representative at Gruntal & Co.

      • Qualified Plans Compliance Landscape Update - Allen Cairns, J Hancock Retirement Consultant

        This session will be a review of current retirement plan design and operational trends intended to help retirement plan participants maximize retirement savings.

        Allen Cairns brings more than 30 years of retirement plan industry experience to his current role, primarily as former managing and sales partner in a “producing” TPA practice. As AVP and Senior Business Consultant, Allen assists the John Hancock Retirement Plan Services (JHRPS) Mid Market sales team in marketing activities, ERISA/compliance sales support, and field training. He joined John Hancock Retirement Plan Services in 2007, initially serving five years as Senior Relationship Manager, TPA Services. In that position, he managed relationships with John Hancock’s top national TPA partners and oversaw the activities of the company’s team of TPA Regional Marketing Directors. Allen earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from SUNY-Buffalo and B.A. in Sociology from the University of Southern Maine. He maintains both the FINRA Series 7 registration and the Qualified Pension Administrator designation from the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries. Outside of work, Allen enjoys hiking, photography, and motorcycling.

      Our CPA workshops take place on our college campus in the Viola George Auditorium, unless otherwise noted. Saint Joseph's College is located on Sebago Lake in Standish, 18 miles north of Portland. The workshop cost will include continental breakfast, lunch, breaks, parking, and workshop materials.
