Poet and Performing Artist Andrea Gibson ’97
March 27, 2017 @ 8:00 pm
Saint Joseph’s graduate and award-winning slam poet, Andrea Gibson, has performed world-wide and is now returning for her first performance at the College.
Andrea’s work gives voice to issues of gender, social norms, political reform, and LGBT realities.
In addition to the evening performance, Andrea will lead an afternoon workshop, Spoken Words in Action, from 3 to 4 p.m. Seating is limited and is available first-come, first-served. Preference will be given to students. To reserve your spot, email Elaine Moesel at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The workshop will explore the poet’s responsibility in the current political climate. We will read and discuss poems by contemporary writers focusing on issues of race, class, gender, sexuality, patriarchy, and capitalism. After which, we will use the shared poems as writing prompts to inspire our own radical voice.
These events are free and open only to SJC students, faculty, and staff.
