Compassionate Eating as Care of Creation
October 26, 2016 @ 3:00 pm
OCTOBER 26, 2016 | 3 P.M., ALFOND HALL AUDITORIUM
The Cultural Affairs Committee presents “Compassionate Eating as Care of Creation” – a lecture by professor Matt Halteman, Philosophy Department, Calvin College. The event is free and open to the public.
Our current food system produces more food in less time and at a lower short-term cost to middle-class consumers in affluent countries than at any other time in history. Regrettably, the methods this system employs have unintended costs, including the marginalization of the poor, the degradation of the environment, animal suffering, and our long-term inability to realize a just and sustainable approach to feeding the world. In this session, Professor Halteman offers a crash course on some of these serious problems as well as advice for turning your fork and spoon into tools for positive change.
