A leading expert on ocean acidification, Mark Green, a professor of environmental science at Saint Joseph’s College, has been selected to join a Maine commission to study ocean acidification’s impact on shellfish.

The Maine Ocean Acidification Commission will meet throughout the year and is expected to complete its work by December 5, 2014, reporting their results to the Legislature’s Marine Resources Committee.

According to a recent Portland Press Herald article, the commission is the first of its kind on the East Coast—the only other commission charged with a similar task is in Washington.

Green, who has spent much of his time and research on ocean acidification, joins 15 other members of the commission composed of scientists, politicians, and a lobsterman, among others.
