In 1990, Vincent J. Kloskowski, III ’95 picked up a college and university guide in his high school guidance counselor’s office and changed his life. That was the day the New Jersey native first learned about Saint Joseph’s College of Maine. After earning a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude in English and communications, he returned in 1997 to work on the other side of the desk. Since 2008, Kloskowski has been assistant dean of the college and director of The Academic Center.
His drive to serve others, lead, and excel came from positive experiences at Saint Joseph’s, where he was “challenged academically, supported, and encouraged,” and at Boston College, where he earned a master’s degree in higher education administration. While there, he served as graduate admission officer in the Carroll Graduate School of Management and an instructor in the Lynch School of Education.
Working at his alma mater is “a blessing” and “a chance to give back, a chance to help students succeed in academia and in life.” Kloskowski accomplishes this through research, professional development, and keeping the pulse of today’s students in mind. “You have to reach into their world,” he says. “Connecting with students one-on-one is important to me. Coordinating the First-Year Experience program and developing accessible student success initiatives are critical.”
The recipient of several national awards, Kloskowski received the 2011 Academic Advising Excellence Award from the National Academic Advising Association and the 2003 Human Relations Award for Excellence in College Admission Counseling from the New England Association for College Admissions. He also serves on professional boards and committees.
Kloskowski credits the college for helping him become the person he is today. He added, “The Sisters of Mercy are near and dear to my heart.”
