For the past ten years Linda Barker has been teaching various criminal justice classes, first at Southern Maine Community College, and since 2008, at Saint Joseph's College. She has taught distance learning classes through Southern Maine Community College, as well.

As a veteran police officer with the South Portland Police Department, Barker has considerable experience in criminal investigations, juvenile justice, patrol, and community policing. Currently, she works in the Community Response Unit where she is a liaison officer to the school system. She coordinates and supervises the Volunteers in Police Service Program and the College Internship Program. Additionally, she investigates criminal cases, works with others in the law enforcement community, and coordinates and participates in community policing activities. She also serves as a Governance Board member for the Community Partnership for the Protection of Children (CPPC). Through these assignments she works closely with many social service providers in the city of South Portland.
