The Institute for Integrative aging is committed to creating events that will enhance social connectivity and build a  stronger sense of community—addressing the needs of Maine’s growing population of older adults.

Coffee and Conversation

Grab a cup of coffee and join us in a conversation! We have a variety of topics and speakers from the community with interesting things to share! We'll have the opportunity to learn something new while meeting others. These sessions are on Zoom, with the ability to call in by phone as well. Please email us at iia@sjcme.edu for more information and links to join.

Book Club

Interested in the opportunity to reflect, discuss, and critique a book with others? Come join our Intergenerational Book Club!  The club, open to all ages, meets monthly via Zoom.  We discuss the current book selection, and then choose next month's book. Click here for the list of books we've read. Links to join, as well as the current book can be found in IIA's weekly email newsletter.

Generation Ukulele Club

Generations Ukulele is online! Join Deb Shugars and ukulele enthusiasts of all ages and ability levels every other Wednesday evening, from 6 to 7:00 for an online social and strum session! FMI and the links to join the sessions, please email iia@sjcme.edu.

Pen Pals

Now more than ever, we need social connection. Many people residing in care facilities are not only at high risk for COVID-19, but the associated negative effects of social isolation and loneliness. Do you remember receiving letters from a penpal? How excited were you to receive them? We are working with a local care facility to provide isolated older adults an opportunity to receive a friendly letter from someone in the community. If you are interested, please let us know iia@sjcme.edu

Silver Lunches

Each Wednesday this summer, older adults of the local community are invited to take part in a farm-to-table lunch experience in the rustically beautiful setting of our historic Normandy-style Stone Barn on Sebago Lake. Each week, Chef Mary Paine will craft a different lunch menu focused on local meats, sustainable seafood, and seasonal produce. Lunches will consist of three courses: a salad or appetizer, main entrée, and dessert. Family-style seating on long tables will allow for socializing under soaring turn-of-the-century timbers. We welcome you to enjoy this community-building dining experience and celebration of sustainability brought to you by the Institute for Integrative Aging.

2021 Lunch Dates

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2021 Silver Lunches have not yet been scheduled.

Ukulele Classes

IIA is excited to offer Ukulele classes to our community!  There are two, six-week classes, Beginner Silver Ukulele and Beyond Basics Silver Ukulele, that are offered several times per year.  Classes are led by Deborah Shugars.  For more information, contact us at iia@sjcme.edu.

**Due to postponements because of the COVID-19 pandemic, our next classes have not yet been scheduled.  Check back for more information.**

Potlucks

Join us at a potluck!  IIA holds a potluck brunch or lunch once-a-month for Silver Sneakers members, and other community members. The day and time, as well as the theme, vary each month. These potlucks are a great way to connect more personally with members of our community, to eat some yummy food and to have fun!  Contact iia@sjcme.edu for more information.
