Vice President of Student Life

Dr. Michelle Etchart joined Saint Joseph’s College as Vice President of Student Life in 2026. In this role she provides leadership for programs and services that support student safety, well-being, engagement, and belonging. Her focus is on a rich student experience that supports all students, shaped by the Sisters of Mercy tradition. Her areas of oversight include Campus Safety, Community Standards, the Counseling Center, the Health & Wellness Center, Residential Living, Student Engagement, and Title IX.

Most recently, Michelle served as Assistant Vice President of Student & Campus Life at Seattle University where she led engagement, inclusion, and student success initiatives. In her 30-year career, she has worked with a wide range of student affairs areas, building comprehensive student programs and improving outcomes such as retention and student satisfaction. Michelle is passionate about students and their holistic development.

Michelle has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Oregon. She earned a master’s degree in College Student Services Administration from Oregon State University, and later returned to OSU to complete a Ph.D. in Adult & Higher Education. Her research interest focuses on building a sense of belonging across student populations.
