“I love working in healthcare and have always wanted to be an agent of change. I quickly learned, however, that it can be challenging to grow in healthcare leadership without being a licensed clinician. I found my place behind the scenes and I genuinely loved the role of supporting organizations and clinical teams without direct patient care. I wanted to deepen my understanding of healthcare finance, strategy, and policy. After exploring several graduate programs, I chose the Master of Health Administration program at St. Joseph’s College of Maine because of its strong reputation, CAHME accreditation, instruction by experienced healthcare leaders, and flexible schedule.
One of the most meaningful aspects of the program was learning alongside radiology technologists, nurses, pharmacists, and fellow administrators who understood the realities of working in healthcare. Many of my classmates, including myself, were pursuing Nursing Home Administration certification, which brought valuable real-world perspectives into classroom discussions.
The program was clearly designed for serious, working professionals. I gained insight from the faculty and also from my peers, especially around how organizations adapt, remain relevant, and recruit and retain staff in a changing field.
This experience has been both personally and professionally transformative. I built lasting relationships, expanded my professional network, and gained the knowledge and confidence to lead more effectively. Completing this program is a huge accomplishment, and I am very grateful for the experience.”
