Student stories

Practicum Experience

In one of her practicums, Tammy visited nursing home patients and deliberately sought out the least visited patient in the care facility – an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s. Tammy’s experience was so powerful that it inspired faculty to implement similar community-based service learning-type practicums in their own courses.

“The elderly patient I visited had been abandoned by her family, she felt sad, lonely and her self-worth had been diminished. I believe that God entered the room because for the next two hours the veil of Alzheimer’s was slightly drawn back. I listened and asked questions as she told me different stories about her life (true stories, confirmed by a staff member). I decided to play her some Gospel music. What happened next has forever left a mark on my heart that will never be erased. I placed my phone on her pillow near her ear and as the first Gospel song started to play, God freed her completely from the restraints of Alzheimer’s and she came alive! Her mind, heart and soul were soaring to the heavenly music. She sang every single word on cue to all eight songs that I played.”

Why Choose Saint Joseph’s

Karen MentlewskiDirector of Religious Education
During my studies I was diagnosed with cancer. I was, and continue to be, supported by my advisor and professors through their understanding, encouragement and prayer. What a blessing!
Dennis ReichardBusiness Manager
The courses are challenging and the professors do give you good feedback and are easy to get in contact if you are having a problem. The tuition is very reasonable for graduate studies and if you need an extension it isn't a problem.
Kevin P. Cannon
St. Joseph's College has provided an excellent educational process for me. The professors have been top notch, are always readily available to assist in my education process and have shared a wealth of knowledge above and beyond the coursework they have presented.
