Saint Joseph’s College of Maine Announces New Members to The Board of Trustees

Standish, ME – Saint Joseph’s College of Maine is pleased to announce the appointment of several distinguished individuals to its Board of Trustees. These new members bring a wealth of experience and diverse expertise in business, education, healthcare, and nonprofit leadership. Their contributions will be invaluable in advancing the College’s mission of providing quality education grounded in the values of mercy.

Bernice E. Bradin
Retired Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Lesley University

Bernice E. Bradin joins the Board after an extensive career in finance and higher education administration. Having retired as Vice President and CFO of Lesley University in 2019, Bernice brings a wealth of financial expertise. She has served as an interim Chief Business Officer at Saint Joseph’s College and is currently a Trustee of the Tilton School. In her career, Bernice has worked in venture capital, private equity, and various financial consulting roles. She earned her MBA from Harvard Business School and holds an undergraduate degree from Cornell University.

Mark C. Duval ’06
Business Executive

Mark Duval is a successful local entrepreneur who has focused on the automotive and commercial real estate industries. He owned and operated Duval’s Service Center in South Portland for more than 35 years. While operating the service center, Mark grew a commercial real estate portfolio largely focused on industrial assets. He currently focuses on investment and management of commercial real estate throughout the state of Maine. A South Portland native, Mark has served in various leadership roles within his community including with the Portland Water District, Southern Maine Community College, and the Maine Irish Heritage Center. He is an alumnus of Saint Joseph’s College, having earned his BS in Business Administration in 2006, and is passionate about fostering student success in the Mercy tradition.

Margaret Hourigan, EdD, RN
Retired Educator and Administrator

Margaret Hourigan, former Chair of the Department of Nursing at Saint Joseph’s College, had a distinguished career in nursing education and leadership. During her 15 years at SJC, including 12 as Department Chair, she shaped the nursing program and fostered excellence in students. Margaret now teaches part-time in Purdue University Global's RN to BSN program. She serves on the Northern Light Healthcare Foundation’s Governance Committee and has held leadership roles with the Maine State Board of Nursing and other professional organizations. She holds degrees from the University of New Hampshire, University of Southern Maine, and Columbia University.

Alan F. Lapoint
President and CEO, The Strainrite Companies

Alan Lapoint, with over 30 years of experience in manufacturing leadership, heads The Strainrite Companies, a global leader in liquid filtration and separation equipment. Alan has also been involved in numerous acquisitions and leads multiple businesses within the manufacturing sector. His leadership extends to several non-profit boards, including his 12 years of service to the National Association of Manufacturers Board of Directors.

Dan Marques
Chief Digital Officer and Entrepreneur

Dan Marques is a highly accomplished digital transformation leader with experience in eCommerce, AI, and digital strategy. As Chief Digital Officer at HEYDUDE, a Crocs, Inc. brand, Dan leverages his expertise to guide digital commerce initiatives. A graduate of Babson College, Dan has also co-founded several successful digital companies. He is excited to bring his entrepreneurial insights to the Saint Joseph’s College Board, advancing its commitment to innovation in higher education.

Nate Martell ‘99
Executive Vice President, Chief Risk Officer & General Counsel, Machias Savings Bank

Nate Martell brings legal and risk management expertise to the Board from his role at Machias Savings Bank. A 1999 graduate of Saint Joseph’s College with a BS in Environmental Science, Nate oversees the bank’s legal matters and risk management functions. In 2002 he earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Maine School of Law. His professional background includes private legal practice and in-house legal work for a regulated utility. Nate is also active on the boards of other community organizations, including Down East Community Hospital.

Sally A. White
Principal and Owner, SAW Consulting Services

Sally A. White, Ph.D. is Principal and Owner of SAW Consulting Services, providing strategic guidance to colleges, universities, and nonprofits. With over 40 years of experience in Higher Education, she previously served as Senior Vice President and Leader of the Higher Education Practice at McAllister & Quinn and secured over $400 million in funding for her college and university clients. She has also held senior leadership positions at the College of Notre Dame, Lehigh University and Towson University, expanding international and graduate programs and securing major fundraising successes. She was a Professor at the University of New Hampshire and Illinois State. Dr. White earned a bachelor's degree in European history at the University of Greenwich-London, a master’s degree at the University of Texas and a doctorate in social psychology at the University of New Mexico.

These individuals will work alongside the existing board members to help guide Saint Joseph’s College toward a future of excellence, ensuring that it remains a leading institution of higher learning dedicated to fostering a strong community, transformative education, and the values of mercy.
