Plaque Dedication Ceremony Held for Clark’s Court

The Saint Joseph’s College community gathered for a plaque dedication ceremony for Clark’s Court on Monday afternoon, May 5. The newly placed plaque was presented to members of the Class of 2014 in memory of their classmate, Clark Noonan.

Athletics Director Brian Curtin spoke at the dedication, addressing students, faculty, and staff. “I hope you, like us, see how much this court is utilized. It’s indicative of its purpose here,” he said. “This is a symbol of your friend, Clark Noonan, and it’s a symbol of our community.”

At the end of a moment of silence, the College’s bells echoed across the campus.

James Philbrook, a graduating senior and a member of the College’s men’s basketball team, said, “We wanted to do something for Clark because he was such a great part of the community here and was well respected. It’s just a beautiful thing.”

Situated near the campus center, the lighted outdoor basketball court is a memorial to former student-athlete Clark Noonan, who passed away as a result of a tragic car accident on April 14, 2012. A basketball player at Bangor High School and later at the College, Noonan left an undeniably lasting impression at the College and in his hometown of Bangor.

Constructed last summer, Clark’s Court officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessing on Thursday, September 5, 2013.
