Gerald E. Talbot, will be awarded a Honorary Doctorate of Public Service in recognition of her service to society at Commencement on May 8, 2021. Throughout his life, Mr. Talbot has served Maine and his community as an activist and a leader. As the first president of the Portland chapter of the NAACP, he led the passage of the Maine Fair Housing Bill.
Sr. Patricia McDermott, RSM, will be awarded a Honorary Doctorate of Public Service in recognition of her service to society: for her role as an educator, and later in her role as an administrator.
Online student Zachary Chase has been chosen to speak on behalf of the online graduating class at the College’s Commencement on May 8, 2021. Zack will earn a Master of Science in education.
Here are some of the COVID-19 adaptations we will be implementing for students, faculty, and staff between Commencement and Fall semester.
Erin is from Stoughton, Massachusetts, and will earn a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a dual concentration in math and special education.

As we planned for the academic year which is nearly at an end, we have had three primary goals. It is becoming apparent that we will not be able to achieve all of these outcomes. In an attempt to celebrate the Class of 2021 with an in-person commencement, we will begin the closure of residence spaces over the next three days for first, second, and third year students.
Today we have 8 new, and 15 active cases of COVID-19 on campus. Our in-person Commencement is now at risk. Campus living for the remainder of the semester is now at risk. Protecting these goals requires that we stop the virus in its tracks now.
