Sister Michele Aronica was a faculty member at the college for 28 years, and then became vice president of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Northeast Community for four years before returning to the faculty in 2011. She serves on the board of directors of Mercy Health System of Maine. She was one of the original participants in the College’s Spring Break Workfest program in 1992, and continued to volunteer with Workfest for 10 years. In 2006, she was awarded the Saint Joseph’s Medal in recognition of her many years of meritorious service, integrity, and academic excellence. She also received a teaching award from the Dana Foundation.
Based on her background and extensive experience with volunteerism and service learning, Sister Aronica continues to explore the factors that contribute to a student’s sense of civic involvement and responsibility, and the impact of those factors on long-term social responsibility and engagement.
