Saint Joseph’s College of Maine Welcomes SilverSneakers® into Community

The Alfond Center at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine is expanding its adult fitness classes to include the nationally recognized SilverSneakers® program. SilverSneakers–the nation’s leading community fitness program designed exclusively for older adults– offers a way to motivate older adults to increase their levels of physical activity and remain socially active. The College will celebrate a SilverSneakers Launch Week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, March 12, 14, and 15, 2019. On those three days during Launch Week, classes will be free and door prizes will be awarded.

Bangor Savings Bank Foundation Awards Saint Joseph’s College $5,000 For Local Food Innovation

Bangor Savings Bank Foundation has awarded Saint Joseph’s College $5,000 towards the construction of the Institute for Local Food Systems Innovation, a hub providing education and infrastructure in support of the economic development of Maine’s local food industry.

Saint Joseph’s Professor Dr. Michael C. Connolly To Present At John Ford Film Festival

Dr. Michael C. Connolly, a professor of History and Political Science at Saint Joseph’s College, will present on three different aspects of John Ford’s life and filmography during a state-wide film festival in February. The Maine Film Center is bringing together various independent cinemas and educational organizations to celebrate what would have been the 125th birthday of John Ford, one of America’s most acclaimed filmmakers.

Public Invited to Sebago Lake Symposium on February 2, 2019

Hosted by the Portland Water District and the Center for Sustainable Communities at Saint Joseph's College, the Sebago Lake Symposium on February 2, 2019 offers an opportunity for Sebago Lake community members and scientists to interactively and collaboratively share and grow their understanding of Sebago Lake, a freshwater lake that provides water for 15% of Maine's population. Topics covered by speakers and sessions include: health of Sebago Lake fisheries, Sebago Lake water quality, climate change impacts, the Sebago Lake monitoring buoy, algae and invasive plants, citizen science opportunities, beach closures, and policies for lake protection. Free, but registration required.

22 SJC Nursing Students Inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society

The Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society held their 31st Annual Induction Ceremony in October on the University of Southern Maine (USM) campus and inducted 22 nurses from Saint Joseph's College of Maine, as well as from Maine Medical Center, University of New England, and USM.
